Family Room Fireplace Accent Wall DIY Transformation

In just five days, self described mother of two, DIYer, craftaholic, home organizer, and decorator, Melanie @simplemadepretty transformed a faux fireplace with shiplap into a stunning fireplace accent wall in a bump out frame with a mantel, TV and a Touchstone® Sideline Elite 42 Electric Fireplace.

Melanie and her husband replaced a shiplap wall and faux fireplace to create a modern, functional focal point in their family room, featuring the Wi-Fi enabled Sideline Elite electric fireplace with a premium flame display and built-in heater. They framed and built a bump out wall to house the new fireplace and a mounted television.

Once the old fireplace is removed, the husband-wife team builds the fireplace surround bump out frame with an opening for the Touchstone electric fireplace.

The bump out wall is painted in Benjamin Moore Simply White, giving the fireplace accent wall a bright, modern look.

In her DIY fireplace wall blog post, Melanie shares, "My hubby and I teamed up on this project… while he did the electrical and the drywall, we both did the demolition, building the frame, and I did the painting and finishing touches. The entire process took 5 days, 2-3 hours each day. If I didn’t have him there to help, it probably would’ve taken me 10 days, lol. That said, if I can do a fireplace build-out project like this, anyone can! I love how easy this electric fireplace was to set up and can’t wait to enjoy some cozy nights at home!"
